Floor Medallions Portfolio
We received the NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) Wood Floor of the Year Award for our meticulous craftsmanship and choices of rare woods and grain patterns. This work was commissioned for the Neiman Family Library and featured figured black cherry, custom sawn from a single tree; flame figured crotch grain oval medallion with dark rays of quarter-sawn African Sepele. The designer was Chuck Crispin for Burger Juell, Ltd.

The Walnut Parquet squares above measure 48" on a side and features flame figured matched walnut "crotch" panels and perfect quarter-sawn walnut chevrons.
At right is a section of the parquet for the Playboy Club Las Vegas. Flame figured walnut panels are bordered with African Wenge. The surface was hand scraped with a triple oil and hard wax finish. The designer for this installation and the one below was Chuck Crispin for Burger Juell, Ltd.
Below is the Laughlin Family Medallion, which also features flame figured Walnut matched crotch panels bordered by African Wenge. Also incorperated into the design is the swirling grain of Walnut root panels which contrast with the matched panels.

Natural shapes govern this off-center Walnut Medallion, above. Walnut crotch panels are in the center with perfect quarter-sawn White Oak providing the contrasting lighter color wood.
The Bolton Family Medallion, below, prominently features a cross of Walnut root wood against a starburst of Hawaiian Koa. The Crowder Family Medallion features perfect quarter-sawn and ray-flecked white oak with Walnut root center panels and perfect quarter-sawn Walnut and Cherry.

Specific designs or logos can be incorporated into a medallion. The six-foot square at right includes an Osage Orange crescent moon with a Cherry and Walnut Greek text on a South American Ipe field.
Kent Macpherson's design below is derived from the natural shapes of the wood pieces. The finish surface has been worked with a technique Kent has pioneered which involves meticulous scraping of the surface following the form of the grain, heightening the varying reflection of light on the surface as you move past.
